Fundada em 1996 em Sapucaia do Sul/RS (Brasil), a A Sorrowful Dream traz desde o seu início um som diferenciado, com uma proposta sempre tangente à linha gothic/doom. Hoje, além desses estilos, incorpora-se à sonoridade da banda outros elementos como death/black metal e experimentações com música clássica.
Ao longo de sua existência, a banda apresentou diversas formações.
O atual line-up da banda é formado por Éder (vocais limpos e extremos), Josie (vocais femininos), Jô (guitarra), Mano (bateria), Mary (teclado), Tuko (baixo) e Lucas (guitarra/violino), o único remanescente da formação inicial.
